Looking Back on 2023 at Jika Jika

As 2023 comes to an end, let's look back at some of our highlights of the year:

De-Fence Against Loneliness Project

We were thrilled to kick-of our latest project, "De-Fence Against Loneliness." This exciting project will breathe new life into our centre by replacing the old childcare fence with a welcoming work of art by the talented visual artist Rosa Mar Tato Ortega. The mid-year launch was fantastic, featuring Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Colin Hunter. Exciting changes are on the horizon in early 2024 – stay tuned for updates!

Stir the Pot!

We also launched the popular "Stir the Pot!" women’s group this year, turning Jika into a creative hub on Tuesday evenings. Welcoming many new faces to our centre, we've crafted candles, wax wraps, bags, soaps, lasting friendships, and more! More engaging Tuesday night programs are on the cards for 2024!

Strategic planning

We shaped a new strategic plan for Jika Jika, focusing on building connected communities and tackling loneliness. Work is already underway to deliver on these important goals.

Community support

Community grants continue to play a vital role at Jika Jika. Recent grants include North Fitzroy Clifton Hill Community Bank’s grant to support our community dinners and garden beds and a TAC Senior’s Cycle Safely grant, helping enhance road safety for seniors. We’ll launch this valuable initiative on Thursday 8 February at 10 am at Jika in the Park. Stay tuned for details.

Thank you for being a valued member of Jika Jika in 2023. As the festive season approaches, we extend warm wishes for a safe and joyous celebration. We look forward to welcoming you back to Jika Jika next year.

Warm regards, The Jika Jika Team
