Reflecting on a remarkable year at our AGM

Our Community Dinner and Annual General Meeting (AGM) last month was a fantastic celebration of our achievements over the past year. It was a joyful evening filled with great people, food and conversation and plenty of laughter.

A highlight was a presentation on our "De-Fence Against Loneliness" project by artist Rosa Mar Tato Ortega. This project will transform our centre by replacing the old childcare fence with a magnificent art installation reflecting our community's stories and dreams early next year. Stay tuned for updates!

A special thank you to 10-year-old Amelie (She/They), a valued community member and our youngest volunteer, who shared what Jika Jika means to them and their community in this heartfelt speech:

"Jika Jika is important to me because it’s a place where everyone is welcome and can connect with others. There’s also heaps of great opportunities to learn new skills, share your skills and meet new people.

I go there every week to volunteer because I love helping out and connecting with others. I enjoy passing down my skills to others while volunteering.

Jika Jika is a welcoming, safe, fun and amazing place, and everyone part of the Jika Jika community should feel very proud of themselves for helping make Jika Jika the amazing place it is."

The AGM introduced our 2023 Annual Report, showcasing the efforts of our staff, volunteers and community members in breathing new life into Jika Jika  this year. We've welcomed fresh faces and introduced exciting programs, making our community stronger than ever.
